Membership
Shooters are encouraged to join local clubs, but you don't have to be a member to participate. If you think you will be shooting at one club most of the time, it makes sense to join, since registration fees for members are usually a couple of dollars less. A common registration fee for a monthly shoot is $10.
Local clubs are usually affiliated with national organizations as well. Two of the best know are S.A.S.S. (Single Action Shooting Society) and N.C.O.W.S (National Congress of Old West Shootists).
S.A.S.S. has been around for a long time and has more than 50,000 members with affiliated clubs in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia.
N.C.O.W.S. was formed more recently and has affiliated clubs primarily in the Midwestern U.S. and has more than 2000 members. The N.C.O.W.S. organization was founded by individuals who wanted to give more detailed attention to authentically replicating the dress and equipment of the old west. S.A.S.S. includes dress and equipment from the old west period as well as "B" western movies.
To visit the web sites of either of these organizations, click on their respective logos at the right. Each site has a list of local clubs so you can find one near you!
